If you’re like me and created a Facebook at a relatively young age, you’re probably in the same boat. Never fear, your Facebook username can be changed.
How to change Facebook username
The thing is, your username doesn’t show up large on your profile or anything. Thankfully. But it doesappear as part of your Facebook page URL. That in itself makes it worthwhile to change to something more appropriate.
Luckily, it’s fairly simple! Follow along and I’ll show you how.
Step 1: Log in to Facebook
Log in to your Facebook account. This is the email that you used to create your account and yourFacebook password. If you also created your Facebook page a decade ago, you might use a now-defunct email to sign in. I know I do. There’s an easy way to update that while changing your URL, which I’ll get into later.
Step 2: Navigate to Settings
When you successfully log in, you’ll find yourself on your newsfeed. Pictures of your friends’ engagements and babies and drunken nights out will populate your screen. Maybe you’ll even spot some new Facebook 3D photos.

Look to the top of the page where the blue banner is. To the very right, you’ll see a small arrow pointing down. Click on that to open up the drop-down menu. From there, click on Settings, which is second from the bottom.
Step 3: Edit Facebook username
On the General Account Settings page that you’re now on, look at the second option from the top. It’s your username! Click on the pencil icon to the right of it to change your username and URL.
Now that there are 2.23 billion monthly active Facebook users out there, it might be difficult to come up with a unique username. Facebook will let you know if the username is available or not when you type it in.
Once you find an available username, click Save.
Now you have a new Facebook username andFacebook URL!
Note: As I mentioned above, if you are using an outdated email, this is also the place you can change that! Directly below username is a field called Contact, where you can update your email address to whatever you currently use.
Step 4: Check Facebook URL
To check that your changes have saved, navigate to your Facebook profile. You can do this by clicking your name located in the top right corner.
Once on your profile, look at the URL. It should be your new one!
Enjoy your new Facebook username
Now you no longer have to live under whatever label your high-school-self created. Your username and URL reflect you as the person you are now!
